2003 ford explorer sport trac xlt towing capacity

While all Explorer-series models can lay claim to versatility, the 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac truly epitomizes the idea. The design of the 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac combines the construction of an SUV with that of a rugged pickup truck. The result is an innovative vehicle with the best attributes of both. The comfort and handling of a sport utility are retained, while the toughness and durability of Ford trucks are readily apparent.

Available Models
The 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac comes in three models: XLS, XLT and XLT Premium. All three feature the same design, but differ in the amount of standard equipment.

Interior Features
The four-door, five-passenger 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac offers three different seating packages, allowing owners to fit their vehicles to accommodate their needs. Revised low-back buckets seats, a new door trim and new interior colors give the Sport Trac a fresh look. The 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac comes standard with an AM/FM stereo/single CD player with an integrated clock. At the top of the line, the XLT Premium offers such standards as front-seat power lumbar support, 6-way power driver seat, rear climate and radio controls and an overhead console that contains two map/courtesy lights, compass, outside temperature display and garage door opener storage bin.

For options, customers can feast on the new Adrenaline package. With a 485-watt PioneerTM sound system, new wheels and limited paint colors, the name is bang on.

Exterior Features
Sport Trac has a four-door SUV cabin, but gets a 4-ft-long pickup-truck bed in lieu of an enclosed cargo area. The bed, which measures 50 inches long and 19.7 inches deep, offers 29.6 cubic feet of cargo space. Did someone mention versatility?

Performance
The engine on the Sport Trac is a 4.0-liter V6 with 203 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 237 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm. When properly equipped, the Explorer Sport Trac has a 5,300-pound maximum towing capacity. 2WD and 4WD configurations are both available, as are 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmissions.

Independent short- and long-arm front suspension offers a combination of smooth ride and secure handling. The rack-and-pinion steering system provides good returnability, low steering effort and communicative road feel.

Safety and Security
Safety features have been improved on the 2003 Explorer Sport Trac. Rear disc brakes replace drums in the antilock brake configuration. Electronic rollover sensors provide additional protection by measuring whether the vehicle is tilting, how fast the lean angle is changing and whether the combination means the vehicle might be headed for a rollover.
