2015 toyota highlander maintenance required light reset

I recently changed my own oil and oil filter, successfully. I have a 2015 Toyota Highlander. I need to reset that annoying little maintenance light. This is the light that comes on after a preset distance has been recorded on "Trip A" or "Trip B".

Now - I've read the users manual and I've reviewed videos online of people resetting this light. My problem is, I cannot correlate what they (the people and the manual) describe and what I see on my dash.

Now, the display is located between RPM meter and the speed meter. On the speed meter there is a button that sticks out with "ODO TRIP" right next to it. On the actual display itself there is a line near the bottom that says "ODO XXXX miles".

Everywhere I have read online (and in the manual) is "oh, just reset Trip A or reset Trip B". Problem is, I do not see either on my display. From memory I know I've seen Trip A and Trip B on the display in the past but for whatever reason they no longer appear.

I really don't want to screw anything up here. I just want to reset my maintenance required light.

Could anyone please comment? I appreciate your time in this matter.

Many Toyota Highlander models are equipped with maintenance reminder systems that alert the driver when regular maintenance should be done. Oil changes are the most common reason for the maintenance reminder to illuminate. When the oil is changed by a Toyota dealer, the light should get reset as part of the process. You can reset the maintenance required light yourself if your mechanic does not reset it or if you perform the maintenance yourself.

Step 1

Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position but do not crank the engine.

Step 2

Press the odometer button until the total mileage shows on the display.

Step 3

Turn the ignition switch off.

Step 4

Press and hold the odometer button. Turn the ignition on again.

Step 5

Release the odometer button when the maintenance required light blinks a few times then disappears.

How rugged is the Toyota Highlander?

Toyota is recognized for making long-lasting vehicles, and the Highlander is no exception. Even after covering 300K miles on their cars, many owners haven’t needed substantial repairs like an engine or transmission rebuild.

You must service your car at the proper intervals to reach this level. Older vehicles using conventional oil need to have their oil changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, whereas newer models using synthetic oil only need to change their oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles or so. You should bring your car in for a tune-up every 12 to 18 months.

Toyota Highlander’s Maintenance Schedule

The Toyota Highlander’s maintenance plan is rather extensive, and you should follow it to avoid any issues with the car. As long as you follow up with the maintenance, your vehicle will last longer.

So you need to check all fluid levels, oil and filter replacement, tire rotation, brake lining/drum, and brake pad/disc inspection should be performed every 5,000 miles or six months. You should examine the ball joints, coolant, and transfer case oil every 15,000 miles or 18 months, whichever arrives first. The cabin and engine air filters should be replaced every 30,000 miles or 36 months.

FAQ – Toyota Highlander Maintenance Requires

Is there a timing chain or a belt on the Toyota Highlander?

Depending on the powertrain, the Toyota Highlander has gone through numerous variants. Timing chains and belts may be included in your vehicle’s standard equipment. The four-cylinder SUV’s timing chain was standard equipment from 2001 to 2007. The V6 model had a timing belt, but in 2008, the manufacturer changed all of the Highlander’s engine choices to a timing chain.

What brand of engine oil is recommended?

The engine must be lubricated using SAE 0W-20 oil. Mobil 1, Valvoline Advanced, Castrol Edge, Royal Purple, Pennzoil Platinum, and Quaker State are all excellent choices if you’re doing it yourself.

How much oil does a 2015 Highlander hold?

To keep engine components cooled and lubricated, engine oil is essential. The 4-cylinder engine (1AR-FE) in the Toyota Highlander requires 4.6 quarts. In comparison, the V6 engine (2GR-FKS) requires 5.8 quarts of oil.
