Best workout game on oculus quest 2

For ages, gaming and fitness were virtually antonyms. Wii Sports was one of the first games to break this perception and really open up the possibilities of fitness in gaming. Within the constantly evolving world of Virtual Reality, that potential only continues to grow.

VR fitness games bring a whole new meaning to "at home" workouts, making getting in shape a much more fun and immersive experience than following along with a video tutorial. If you are looking to kick the gym and explore some virtual workouts, here are some VR fitness games we recommend checking out.

Updated on July 24, 2022 by Shailyn Cotten: Getting a good workout in VR does not have to be as boring as exercising in a virtual gym. If you crave a variety of fitness games where your workout does not actually feel like you are "working out", we have added some more of the best VR fitness games worth exploring.

13/13 Dance Central

A dancer dance battle against the player, and
their move is rated

Finally, a VR game for all of us Just Dance fans. There are few workouts quite as gratifying as learning how to do a new dance, and Dance Central does not disappoint. Challenge a cast of colorful characters in this nightclub to dance battles. As you learn and master new dances, you will turn your rivals into friends.

Choose from dozens of songs you know and love, and even hop into multiplayer to go toe-to-toe with your friends in the ultimate dance battle. Talk about some good cardio.

12/13 Pistol Whip

A player shoots a gun at a robot in a bright neon synthwave world

Ever wished you could get fit like John Wick and groove out at the same time? Pistol Whip is a bullet-hell fever dream that will keep you constantly moving along with the beat while gunning down your foes.

With two campaign modes, plus Daily Bounty and Monthly Ultimatum modes, you will never run out of new content in this unexpectedly intense exercise game.

11/13 REAKT Performance Trainer

A player wears the Oculus Quest and hand controls while playing Reakt Performance Trainer

Perhaps you already consider yourself a pretty athletic person, but you need a way to incorporate some more at-home training. REAKT Performance Trainer makes improving your reaction time in VR easy and tangible.

With weekly challenges and in-depth scoring, charts, and trackers for your performance, REAKT Performance Trainer becomes incredibly appealing. Plus, you are training your body and mind at the same time.

10/13 Supernatural VR

A woman wearing fitness clothes and a white VR headset stands in a virtual reality punching a rock to bits

Supernatural VR is essentially the Peloton bike of VR fitness games. After your 30-day free trial is up, the game requires a $19 a month subscription to continue. What do you get for this pricey monthly subscription? Access to a library of daily workouts incredibly similar to Beat Saber's 360 mode set in an ultra-realistic environment, with some more nuanced arm movements required.

You will also be coached throughout the entire "workout" by a virtual Supernatural trainer. While Supernatural VR does not offer much more than other games for the steep monthly price, if you need the extra motivation mid-workout or thrive off of tracking your workout statistics, Supernatural could be a good fit for you.

9/13 FitXR

Formerly known as "BoxVR", FitXR is yet another take on the VR rhythm fitness game genre that requires a monthly subscription. With FitXR though, you get three different styles of workouts: boxing, dance, or HIIT.

Unlike Beat Saber or Supernatural, each mode varies up the way you interact with incoming targets rather than just slashing. For instance, in boxing, you will need to jab, cross, and uppercut the targets, creating a far more balanced workout.

8/13 VZfit

Two players travel down a mountain road at sunset, one riding a bike, the other walking on a moving platform, with the VZfit title art above

Have you ever wanted to run or bike along some of the world's most beautiful roads, but don't have the money to travel or the time? VZfit gives you the chance to explore some of the most stunning places in the world, from the Alps to the French Countryside, all while getting a cardio workout.

You can literally jog through real-life locations captured with Google Street View. If you have an elliptical or standing bike, you can sync your exercise equipment with a cadence sensor to ride in VZfit as well.

7/13 Holofit

A player rows a white kayak down a lush tropical river in first person, with a HUD floating in front showing the time and pace

Like VZfit, Holofit endeavors to bring your at-home workouts into an immersive world. The difference is that in Holofit, the environments are entirely virtual and not based on actual locations. Holofit also puts a strong emphasis on syncing its workouts with exercise equipment, such as rowing machines, ellipticals, and exercise bikes using Bluetooth.

Holofit can still be used without any fitness machines in its "Freestyle" mode, but only with Oculus Quest VR headsets. With or without syncing any exercise machines, Holofit offers a variety of virtual workouts from rowing, running, cycling, and even skiing. It does require a monthly subscription of $10.79, however.

6/13 OhShape

A woman wearing a white VR headset bends backwards to avoid an incoming orange block, and a blue block with a human cutout approaches her

Imagine Beat Saber, but with only walls and obstacles turned on. This is essentially what OhShape's gameplay is like. Riding along the VR rhythm game trend, OhShape brings its own unique spin by focusing on getting your body moving and jiving.

Unlike other rhythm games, which throw fast-moving targets for you to hit, OhShape will also have you dodging obstacles left and right, or positioning your body is all sort of flexible ways to fit yourself through walls with human-shaped cutouts. Done correctly, these mechanics should get you dancing through obstacles to burn those carbs away.

5/13 Phantom: Covert Ops

A man in army fatigues and armor rows a camo kayak away from a military helicopter

So maybe you want a little more action and story along with your workout. Phantom Covert Ops nails this crossover, throwing you into an intense and immersive military stealth mission. Oh, and you will be getting a rowing workout too.

Row your military kayak through wetlands occupied by hostile targets, making strategic decisions to take enemies out and risk exposure, or to try and stealth your way through the mission unseen. Phantom Covert Ops is currently only available for the Oculus Quest 2, but it stands out as one of the few VR stealth fitness games on the market.

4/13 The Thrill Of The Fight

A man wearing blue boxing gloves and shorts stands with hands up ready to fight in a boxing ring, while to the side a referee in a bow tie oversees

If you have ever felt nostalgic for the days of Wii Sports Boxing, let us introduce you to The Thrill of the Fight. Cue the Rocky Balboa theme song. The Thrill of the Fight teaches you the ins and outs of boxing, from jabs, crosses, uppercuts, blocks, and dodges.

Fight against AI boxers to become King of the Ring, and track your progress and stats with the Oculus Move app. With many players sharing their stories of being "tricked" into working out and starting at only $9.99 for the Oculus Quest 2, The Thrill of the Fight looks like a bang for your buck.

3/13 The Climb 2

A pair of floating gloves grips a taut rope, climbing across a desert canyon with helicopter and blimp in the background

You might not be looking to Free Solo in your living room, but if you want a good arm workout from the comfort of your home, take a look at The Climb 2 for Oculus Quest 2. Whether sitting or standing, The Climb 2 pushes you to new heights with climbs through virtual environments like massive cityscapes, grand desert canyons, or vast cave systems.

While you might not be working out to the same extent as going to an actual rock climbing gym, The Climb 2 gets your arms moving and heart racing, all for $29.99. Who needs a Day Pass when you can just rock climb at home?

2/13 Carve Snowboarding

A snowboarder in black and gray cold weather gear looks out over a sunset above the snowy mountains

Get those hips moving as you soar down the snowy slopes. Carve Snowboarding offers a low-impact workout combined with some thrilling mountainside visuals.

Like Skate 3 and most other snowboarding or skateboarding games, the gameplay focuses on pulling off tricks as you glide down the mountain to rack up points. You control your board by moving your hands, and when combined with a proper stance, Carve Snowboarding will give your arms and legs a good burn.

1/13 Beat Saber

A woman in white t-shirt and sneakers wearing a VR headset leaps towards approaching red and blue blocks, her arms stretched behind her holding two lightsabesr

Putting it simply, Beat Saber is a console seller for VR, and for good reason. It is an incredibly challenging and addictive rhythm game at its core, with a sneaky cardio workout built in. Armed with two "sabers", you must swing through incoming color-coded blocks in the corresponding directions in time with the beat, all while avoiding obstacles and bombs.

With a massive library of song packs available, including artists such as Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish, plus an infinite number of custom songs accessible in the Oculus Quest or HTC Vive, there is a lot to love about Beat Saber.
