Welcome to Carolina Cavapoos!

The perfect companion for any home

Sometimes a blend of two ingredients that you otherwise wouldn’t think should go together turns out to produce something great.  Remember that old Reeses Pieces candy commercial where a gal walking down the street eating from a jar of peanut butter runs into a guy eating a chocolate bar (“Hey, you got chocolate in my peanut butter! You got peanut butter on my chocolate!”)?  They then share the result and it tastes pretty yummy.

That’s the way it is with the Cavapoo—a crossbreed of two fine purebred dogs that produces a hybrid dog with the desirable traits that each breed brings to the mix.  The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a toy dog developed in sixteenth century England as a companion dog.  The Poodle is a much older breed from Germany  and France intended (believe it or not) to be a sporting dog, specifically a water retriever.  A  Cavapoo is the offspring of the Cavalier and the Poodle (either a miniature or a toy).  It was one of the earliest “hybrid” dogs, first bred during the fifties.  I believe it’s the best.

The Cavalier is known for its loveable and friendly nature, and makes a great lap dog.  The Poodle is one of the most intelligent breeds, is athletic and has a non-shedding coat.  But both have potential problems.  The Cavalier has been so closely bred to its breed standard that it can be prone to a number of potential health problems.  The Poodle sometimes does not have a good temperament and may exhibit aggressive behaviors toward strangers. It needs a great deal of stimulation and exercise or else it may become bored and act out.

Crossbreeding the Cavalier and the Poodle usually produces a puppy with the desirable traits of each parent without the potential negatives.  The resulting Cavapoo is friendly, cuddly, healthy, playful, highly trainable, smart and mostly non-shedding.  You want to chill out on the couch?  Your Cavapoo is down for that.  How about a brisk walk around the park?  Let’s go! Cavapoos love kids and make great family dogs.  Their smallish size (about fourteen or fifteen pounds) also makes for a fine companion for folks who live alone or in small apartments.

Like any blend, you want the highest quality ingredients to go into it.  My sires and dams are all American Kennel Club registered and come from well-documented bloodlines.  As a hybrid, the Cavapoo is not eligible for AKC registration, but you can be confident that my Cavapoos come from the finest stock.

Color wise, a Cavapoo litter is like a box of chocolates—you never know what you’re going to get.  Tri-color, black and white, red and white, merle, apricot, cream or gold are all possible.  But whatever the color, they all have that friendly personality and temperament that makes them such irresistible pets and beloved family members.

BEST Cavapoos

Cavapoo Breeders providing the best quality Cavalier King Charles x poodle crosses

Best Cavapoos provides family-raised Cavapoos of outstanding health, temperament and looks to well-matched families. We never ship puppies, but we will hand deliver them to appropriate families.

Best Cavapoos works with a network of family breeders whose Cavapoos are pets first and foremost. Nathan Crockett, the founder of Crockett Doodles has specialized for years in Goldendoodles, Labradoodles, and Springerdoodles. As Crockett Doodles expanded to other doodle breeds, Nathan's brother Josh Crockett and Isaac Crockett both got beautiful Cavapoos for their families. Since then, Crockett Doodles has expanded to a few other family friends, buying them gorgeous Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Cavapoos--which are pets first and foremost. The outstanding reputation that Crockett Doodles has developed over the past many years for Goldendoodles and Labradoodles has continued with top notch Cavapoos.

Cavapoo Varieties

  • F1 Cavapoos: First Generation (F1) Cavapoos are the resulting of crossing a purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a purebred mini Poodle or toy Poodle. These F1 Cavapoos are 50% Cavalier and 50% poodle.

  • F1b Cavapoos: First Generation Backcross (F1b) Cavapoos take a First Generation (F1) Cavapoo (mentioned above) and cross it back to a mini Poodle or Toy Poodle. We have occasional F1b litters primarily for those with severe allergies, who want to be sure that their Cavapoo puppy has a non-shedding poodle coat. F1b Cavapoos are 25% Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and 75% Poodle.

  • Multigenerational Cavapoos: Multigenerational Cavapoos (multigens for short) are Cavapoo puppies where both the mother and the father are Cavapoos. You can breed to F1 Cavapoos to each other (non-related 0f course) and get Multigen Cavapoo pups, sometimes referred to as F2 Cavapoos. Or you can breed two F1b Cavapoos to each other and get F2b Cavapoo puppies.

Cavapoo Personality

Cavapoo puppies for sale greenville sc

  • Cavapoos are wonderful with children; they seldom meet a stranger, and Cavapoos love being with people.

  • Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are famously little lap dogs (in past history, often for royalty). That personality often comes over into the Cavapoo. They are some of the most calm of all doodle varieties. They seldom bark, and they love to cuddle. They often look a lot like their better known cousins, the Cockapoo.

Cavapoo vs. Cockapoo

  • Cavapoos almost always have less energy than Cockapoos.

  • Cavapoos are usually smaller than Cockapoos. A typical Cavapoo is often 10-15 pounds; many Cockapoos are 15-25 pounds.

  • Cockapoos make better watch dogs as they often have a fairly big bark (sometimes it's much larger than their body. Cavapoos tend to be quiet. Some Cavapoo owners aren't even sure if their Cavapoo knows how to bark.

  • Cockapoos come in a greater variety of colors. Most Cavapoos are red, red/white, apricot, cream, or tri-color. Cockapoos come in almost every color of the rainbow.

Why a Cavapoo?

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are wonderful dogs. Why would anyone breed one with a mini Poodle?

  • Cavapoos are smarter. Poodles are known for incredible intelligence. Cavapoos tend to be smarter and easier to train than Cavaliers.

  • Cavapoos are hypoallergenic. Because poodles have a nonshedding coat, there's a very good chance that a Cavapoo won't shed or will shed minimally. The curlier the Cavapoo's coat, the less likely to shed.

  • Cavapoos are healthier. Typically a hybrid dog is much healthier than a purebred, because of hybrid vigor. One of the biggest drawbacks to purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniels is that they are prone to several health issues. In general most Cavapoo owners have found that their hybrid (Cavapoo) far outlives their purebred Cavalier.

Cavapoo Colors

Best Cavapoo Breeders specializes in red, red/white, and Blenheim (white with apricot markings) Cavapoos. We occasionally have gorgeous tri-color Cavapoos, and with some regularity we get a litter of apricot (or apricot/white) Cavapoos. It is rare for us to get black Cavapoos or black/white parti Cavapoos.

Our Blenheim Cavapoos are perhaps our best know, so we've pictures several of them above. Blenheim Cavapoos have a white base with apricot or red markings. They're gorgeous. Below, you will also see the other colors that we offer--which are equally gorgeous. Occasionally we have a solid black, black and white, or cream Cavapoo, but we've pictured the Cavapoo colors that we have most commonly (in addition to Blenheim--apricot, red, red/white, and tri-color).

How much should I pay for a Cavapoo?

Purchasing a Cavapoo puppy from a breeder will cost you anywhere $1,000 to $3,000 USD, depending on several factors. The breeder's reputation and size of Cavapoo pup can up the price, as can the pedigree and genetics of the parents.

Which is better cockapoo or Cavapoo?

If you're searching for a dog that requires less attention overall, try a cavapoo; they require less grooming, train faster, and don't demand as much attention from their owners as cockapoos do. Cavapoos also suffer less from separation anxiety.

What's better F1 or F1b Cavapoo?

What is this? The F1b Cavapoo has one Cavapoo parent, and the other purebred parent is usually a Poodle. Therefore, you have roughly a 75% Poodle and 25% Spaniel puppy generation. Since Poodle genes are more prevalent, the F1b Cavapoo has a curlier and more hypoallergenic coat than the F1 Cavapoo.

What is the rarest color of a Cavapoo?

Blue Merle is the rarest Cavapoo color. It is not an official color so it is extremely difficult to find. The next rarest Cavapoo color is solid white and then solid black. Black is a recessive gene for Cavapoos which is why it is rare while most Cavapoos with white have patches of another color.
