Cellular data roaming on or off verizon

‎05-31-2011 07:05 PM

Recently I was on a trip with my family down to Florida, and on the way, my phone told me that I was "roaming". Or, I suppose, using the Extended Network. On my phone, I have data roaming unchecked. Although my phone shows the symbol of roaming I was in the USA, so technically it shouldn't be "roaming", just using the extended network... I heard if you go outside USA, even if you have the unlimited data plan, you get charged for data use.

My questions is: Do you get charged for data use when you use the extended network in the USA? Should I check data roaming if I know I will never go outside America?

We do not charge for data services anywhere in the United States.  This includes Alaska and Hawaii.  You should have data roaming turned on because your phone may read the extended network as roaming even though there are no additional charges for it.  The only reason you would be billed for roaming charges is if you exit the United States.

Do I want roaming data on or off?

Should You Keep It On or Off? Unless you are traveling abroad and need constant access to mobile data, there is no need for you to have data roaming turned on. It is in your best interest to work your way over to the settings option in your phone and toggle this feature off.

Do I want data roaming on or off Verizon?

Data roaming is strictly for international usage. If it is turned off it will not affect your domestic data, voice or text ability. It is fine to have your data roaming powered off.

Does Verizon charge for roaming data?

Will I be charged differently when using my device while roaming domestically? No, with the exception of a few old plans. Visit the My Plan page in My Verizon for the roaming details of your specific plan.

What does turning off cellular roaming do?

It's a good idea to turn off data roaming on your iPhone if you want to avoid using data while traveling internationally. This will help you avoid roaming fees your carrier may charge while you're abroad.
