Since its initial creation, the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game has always had six monster attributes to represent different elements: Dark, Light, Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth, with a seventh attribute exclusive to the Egyptian God cards, Divine, introduced later.

The Water attribute has always been a rather interesting one due to the variety of strategies there are among Water attribute archetypes and its expansiveness. In addition to re-releasing some older cards, Legendary Duelists: Duels From The Deep also introduces brand-new Water monsters and spell and trap cards to support them. But some cards available in this pack are better than others.

10/10 Electric Jellyfish

electric jellyfish

Another monster that requires Umi for its effect, Electric Jellyfish, can send the Field Spell Umi from the player's hand, deck, or Field to the Graveyard to allow the player to Special Summon one Water attribute monster from their hand.

If Umi has been activated and is on the field, then Electric Jellyfish can negate the activation of a monster effect or spell card, which will then cause it to gain 600 Attack and Defense Points. Electric Jellyfish may be a weaker monster, but allowing the player to summon a large variety of Water attribute monsters easily is an effect that should not be taken lightly.

9/10 Number C101: Silent Honor DARK

silent honor dark

The upgraded form of Number 101: Silent Honor ARK, Silent Honor DARK requires three level five monsters as Xyz Material to be summoned. Once per turn, Silent Honor DARK can target any Special Summoned monster controlled by the opponent and attach it as extra material.

If Silent Honor DARK is destroyed while it has material attached, the player can Special Summon it from the Graveyard and then gain 2,800 life points; however, Silent Honor ARK must be in the Graveyard for this effect to be activated, and it can't attack the same turn it has been used. There may be a few caveats, but Silent Honor DARK remains a powerful monster despite them.

8/10 Citadel Whale

citadel whale

An effect monster counterpart of the Ritual Monster Fortress Whale, Citadel Whale, can be tribute summoned normally or can be Special Summoned from the hand or Graveyard if the player tributes two Water attribute monsters. After being Special Summoned, the Spell card Sea Stealth Attack can be set from the player's deck.

When the opponent activates an effect targeting one Water attribute monster in the player's control, Citadel Whale can negate the activation and destroy that card. With all these effects, Citadel Whale is a welcome upgrade to Fortress Whale, which never had an effect and required a specific spell card to be summoned.

7/10 Ocean Dragon Lord - Kai-Ryushin

ocean dragon lord kai ryushin

While the new effect version of the classic card Kai-Ryushin, Ocean Dragon Lord - Kai-Ryushin, has a beneficial effect, it isn't that strong, and Umi is needed to utilize its full potential. Luckily, its second effect helps activate the first; as once per turn, it lets the player add either one copy of Umi, a Kai-Ryushin Spell or Trap card, or a Sea Stealth Spell or Trap card to their hand.

Once Umi has been activated, Ocean Dragon Lord - Kai-Ryushin limits each player to having only one face-up non-Water attribute monster in their control, with any others being sent to the Graveyard.

6/10 Kairyu-Shin's Dark Reef

dark reef

A new Kairyu-Shin trap card, Dark Reef, is yet another card that requires Umi or a card that's treated as Umi for its effects to activate. Once Umi has been sent from the Field to the Graveyard, Dark Reef prevents the player from Special Summoning any non-Water attribute monsters.

It also allows the player to Special Summon up to two differently named Water attribute Normal Monsters and/or monsters that mention Umi in their text from their hand or deck in Defense Position. Additionally, if the opponent controls a monster, the player can Special Summon any number of level six or lower Water attribute Normal monsters from their hand or deck.

5/10 Barian's Chaos Draw

barians chaos draw

Barian's Chaos Draw is helpful for summoning Xyz monsters of the Number archetype. The caveat is that it must be drawn on the player's Draw Phase to be activated. Once drawn, it can be revealed and have one of its two effects activated.

The first effect is that by sending one Seventh Normal Spell card from the deck to the Graveyard, it can gain that card's effect. The second and more splashable effect is that it can Special Summon up to two monsters from the deck with their effects negated. The player can then Special Summon one Number Xyz Monster by using those monsters and any other needed material.

4/10 Sea Stealth II

sea stealth ii

Sea Stealth II is the Continuous Spell counterpart to Sea Stealth Attack. Sea Stealth II's name becomes Umi when face-up on the Field or in the Graveyard. It also prevents the opponent from targeting Water attribute monsters with the effects of non-Water attribute monsters.

At the start of the Battle Phase, the player can Special Summon one Water attribute normal monster or a monster that mentions Umi in its text from their hand or Graveyard, but it is destroyed at the End Phase. Sea Stealth can only be used once per turn, but it can help when backed into a corner by the opponent.

3/10 Sea Stealth Attack

sea stealth attack

Sea Stealth Attack is a Continuous Trap card that requires Umi to activate, but the first part of its effect lets the player activate Umi from their hand or Graveyard. While Umi is on the field, Sea Stealth Attack can have the player banish one Water attribute monster they control until the End Phase of their turn, so that face-up Spell and Trap cards they control cannot be destroyed.

Sea Stealth attack also allows level five or higher Water attribute monsters to destroy any monsters they've battled at the start of the Damage Step. Sea Stealth Attack can become even more powerful when combined with the right Spell and Trap cards.

2/10 Torrential Tribute

torrential tribute

A classic Trap card, Torrential Tribute can be used in almost any deck but fits thematically with the Water attribute decks. Torrential tribute can be activated any time a monster has been summoned and, in response, will destroy all monsters on the Field.

When combined with the effects of other cards that protect Water attribute monsters from being destroyed by card effects, Torrential Tribute can exclusively affect only the opponent, clearing their Field for the player to attack. The new Spell card Fury of Kairyu-Shin can even search the deck for Torrential Tribute in addition to protecting Water monsters, allowing for devastating combos.

1/10 Forbidden Droplet

forbidden droplet

Forbidden Droplet may not be specifically meant for Water attribute decks, but that ironically means it's a splashable card for any deck. Forbidden Droplet has the player send any number of monsters from their hand and/or Field to the Graveyard, and in response to that, it halves the attack of the same number of the opponent's Effect Monsters and negates their effects.

Additionally, the opponent cannot activate the effects of any cards that are the same type as any card sent to the Graveyard by the first part of the effect. Forbidden Droplet can only be used once per turn, of course.
