Home depot return policy for power tools

Home Depot provides an excellent return policy for most products and offers a 90-day return as long as you can provide your receipt, photo ID, and the original payment method for your refund if required. In most situations, your product should be returned unused or with a specific defect; otherwise, you may only be offered an exchange.

With the vast range of products that Home Depot sells, it can become confusing to know what is covered and what has a different return policy, so it’s important to understand what the return policy is for each product category when making purchases.

Many items like generators, major appliances, and even plants have different return policies outside the standard policy.

How To Return Power Tools By Mail To Home Depot

Items purchased online, or in-store may be eligible for a return via UPS. You will need to look up your purchase to see if that is an option for your power tool.

Gas power tools can not be returned through the mail due to the hazardous materials in them. It doesn’t matter if you’ve emptied them or not.

Option 1 with UPS drop-off or pick-up:

  1. Go to the Returns page.
  2. Sign in to your account or use your Order Number to search for the item.
  3. If eligible for a return, you will see a return button.
  4. A UPS packing slip will be emailed to you, and you must print it off.
  5. Package up your item in appropriate packing material
  6. Drop your package off at a UPS account point

Option 2 with Home Depot Customer Service:

  1. Contact Home Depot Customer Service: 1-800-430-3376
  2. They will provide details on pickup from your location
  3. You will need to package the item into appropriate shipping boxes

If your item isn’t eligible for a return via mail and Home Depot has no pickup options, you will need to return the item to a Home Depot store.

What Does Home Depot Cover Under Its Protection Plan?

Home Depot offers a 2-3 year protection plan for power tools, which you can buy for an additional cost once your manufacturer’s warranty expires.

  • No Lemon Policy if your device has the same issue twice.
  • Repairs or replacement as needed

Home Depot offers two different protection plans for different products, and power tools fall under the more basic option that provides minimal protection but more than your manufacturer’s warranty. So it may be a good purchase if you’re hard on your power tools.

Can I Return Lightly Used Power Tools?

Home Depot offers returns on new or unused power tools; if you’ve lightly used your power tool and found a defect or issue that requires replacement or refund, then you will need to contact Home Depot customer service in person and see if the store manager will allow the return.

You aren’t guaranteed anything under the return policy unless there is a defect, but it’s at the store manager’s discretion.

Heavily used items will likely not be accepted for return even within the 90 day return period.

Can I Return Power Tools To Home Depot After 90 Days?

Home Depot will not accept power tools after 90 days or gas power tools after 30 days unless you purchased the power tool through the Home Depot Consumer credit card, the Home Depot commercial revolving charge, or a Home Depot commercial account, and that can extend the return up to 365 days.

Gas power tools are not included in this additional 365-day return, and you have no options after the 30 days have elapsed.
