Every day we do the same thing: we turn on our mobile, we enter our PIN and our Android or iOS mobile picks up voice and data coverage, and allows us to access the options menu.
The problem occurs when we are forced to change the SIM card, either because we have had to
replace ours, or because we have changed operator.
In these cases, the PIN of our Android or iOS mobile will also change, since the PIN code is on the SIM card.

How to Change the PIN on Android?
- On the main screen, press the Applications icon
- Press Settings
- Press Lock screen and security.
- Press Other security settings.
- Scroll to ‘SIM card lock’ and then press Set SIM card lock settings.
- If necessary, press SIM card lock to move the control to the ON position, then enter your current SIM PIN and press OK.
- Press Change SIM PIN.
- Enter your current SIM PIN. The default SIM PIN is 1234.
- Press OK.
- Enter the new SIM PIN.
- Press OK.
- Enter the new SIM PIN again.
- Press OK
How to Disable PIN on Android?
- On the main screen, press the Applications icon
- Press Settings.
- Light the Settings icon.
- Press Lock screen and security.
- Press Security & Lock Screen.
- Press Other security settings.
- Press Other security settings.
- Scroll to “SIM card lock” and then press Set up SIM card lock.
- Set up SIM card lock.
- Under SIM card lock, move the slider to OFF or ON.
How to Change or Disable PIN in iOS?
Simply access the iPhone settings (or iPad equipped with 4G connectivity), within the Phone section. There we will have the option SIM PIN, within which you will have the possibility to disable it completely or change it to your liking.
Be careful: if you change it, the original PIN of the card that your operator sent you will no longer be valid for future reference. This is also not useful when you forget your PIN, as to change it you need to enter the original PIN first.
As for disabling it, some people argue that the PIN code is no longer necessary because the iPhone itself already offers a better lock with our fingerprint or its own four-digit or longer alphanumeric code.
That’s still true, but it’s also safe to say that that PIN can still act as an additional layer of security. The important thing is that we can change it, and fortunately Apple makes it pretty easy for us.
All of these instructions will work flawlessly on the latest version of Android and iOS. On older versions, the instructions may change a bit, but this article will guide you on which option to choose if the menus have any differences.

Follow these instructions to change or reset your Android passwords

You may use two passwords regularly on your Android phone: your lock screen pin or password and your Google Account password.
Your lock screen pin or password grants you access to your phone. Use a biometric unlocking mechanism, like fingerprint or facial recognition. You may not often enter your lock screen pin or password, but it’s still important to know it.
Your Google Account password is used for logging into your Google Account on your phone, enabling you to synchronize your data, access the Google Play store, and more. If you forget your Google Account password or get locked out for some reason, you’ll need to change it to continue accessing all your information.
In this article, we’ll look at how to change and reset the passwords you use on your Android, whether for the lock screen or to access your Google Account.
How to change your Android password
To change your Google Account password from your Android device, follow these steps:
- Open your device settings, click on Google, and then Manage your Google Account.
- Tap on Security.
- Under the heading “Signing in to Google,” tap Password. You may be asked to sign in by providing your current password.
- Enter the new password, then tap Change Password.
Your new password will take effect immediately. You’ll be signed out of all your devices except those used to verify your identity when signing in (for so-called two-factor authentication) and specific mobile devices and home devices with third-party apps that have been given access to your account.
To change the pin or password you use on your phone’s lock screen, follow these steps:
- Tap Apps, then Security. If you don’t see any Security menu, double-check on your phone manufacturer’s website for support, as some menu items may be different.
- Select the type of screen lock you’d like to use by tapping Screen lock. If you’ve already set a lock, you’ll be asked to enter your pin, password, or sequence at this point.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your new pin, password, or sequence.
How to reset your Android password
If you’ve lost or forgotten your Google Account password, you’ll need to follow these steps to reset it:
- From your web browser, go to accounts.google.com. If you remember the email address, you used for your account, enter it and click on Forgot password. If you can’t remember your email, click on Forgot email.
- Google will ask you a series of security questions to confirm it’s you trying to access your account and then send you an email. Check your spam or bulk mail folders or search for “.” Try again if you haven’t received an email after a few minutes.
- A link in the email will allow you to change your password. Be sure to select a strong password (opens in new tab) you haven’t used before.
Security enhancements in recent versions of Android hardware, firmware, and software have all made it much more difficult to access an Android phone without the lock screen pin, password, or sequence. There are a few things you can try.
First, if you’ve set up the Smart Lock feature to unlock when it detects your home WiFi automatically, try taking your phone home, and it should automatically open for you. Otherwise, if you’re using a Samsung device and have registered it with a Samsung account, you can use Samsung’s Find My Mobile (opens in new tab) website to unlock your phone remotely.
For older Android devices (4.4 KitKat or older), you can enter the incorrect pin, password, or sequence five times to be presented with a Forgot pattern/pin message. You can use your Google Account to reset the lock screen.
If none of these cases apply to you, you’ll have to erase your device and start over. You’ll lose data and files that are stored in it, but everything that’s been synced via your Google Account will be fine.
