Apple AirPrint is a built-in print driver that allows you to print from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to most HP printers.

Note:

To access additional printer features such as scanning and printer management tools, install the HP Smart app. For more information, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Set up the printer network connection

Make sure the printer and your Apple device are connected to the same wireless network.

  1. On your Apple device, make sure Wi-Fi is turned on and there is a check mark next to the name of your local Wi-Fi network. If you are connected to a different network, tap the name of your network to join it.

  2. Restart the printer, and then check the printer network connection status.

    • Printers with a touchscreen control panel: Touch the Wireless icon or open the Network Settings or Setup menu to view the network connection status.

    • Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Make sure the light next to the wireless icon or button is on and not blinking.

    If the printer is not connected, continue to the next step.

  3. Place the printer within range of the Wi-Fi router signal, and then connect it to the network.

    • Printers with a touchscreen control panel: Open the Setup, Network, or Wireless settings menu, select Wireless Setup Wizard, and then follow the instructions to select the network name and enter the password.

    • Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Press and hold the Wireless button for five seconds or until the wireless light starts to flash. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on the router until the connection process begins. The printer wireless light stops flashing when the connection completes.

    • HP Deskjet 6000 and 6400, ENVY 6000 and 6400, and Tango printers: Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Power button on the back of the printer for five seconds until the blue bar flashes. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the router until the connection process begins. The blue bar stops flashing when the connection completes.

Print documents, photos, and web pages from iPhone and iPad apps that support printing.

  1. Make sure the printer is turned on, cartridges are installed, and the paper you want to print on is loaded in the correct paper tray.

  2. Open the item you want to print, and then tap the Share icon ( or ), or the menu icon .

  3. Scroll down the screen and select Print from the list of options.

  4. Select your printer, and then select print job settings such as paper size, number of copies, and page range.

    Note:

    Available settings depend on the app you are printing from, the print job type, and your printer. For additional settings and scanning tools, install the HP Smart app.

  1. Check the network connection.

    • Make sure the printer Wi-Fi signal is on, and that it connects to the same network as your mobile device. If the printer has a Wireless icon or button with a light, make sure the light is on. The printer is disconnected from the network if the light is off or blinks.

  2. Make sure paper is loaded in the main tray, and then turn on the printer.

  3. If you want to print web content, such as an email or cloud-based document, open the item before proceeding.

  4. On your mobile device, open the Wi-Fi network menu, and then select the option starting with DIRECT followed by your printer model.

  5. If prompted, enter the Wi-Fi Direct password, and then tap Join.

  6. Open the item you want to print, and then select the option to Print.

  7. Select AirPrint, if prompted.

  8. Select your printer, and then tap Print.

  9. If you were previously connected to a Wi-Fi network, return to the Wi-Fi network menu to reconnect to the network.

While printing, open the Print Center app to view print job status and settings.

  1. While the print job is in progress, open the Apps Switcher to view all apps that have recently been used.

    • iPhones and iPads with a Home button: Press the Home button twice.

    • iPhone X and iPad or later: Swipe up from the bottom to the middle of the screen and hold until the apps display.

  2. Select Print Center to view the Print Summary.

    Note:

    If Print Center is not available, the app automatically closed after the print job completed.
