How to block numbers that are not in my contacts

If you don’t want to get calls from a certain phone number, you can block it. When the number tries to call you, your phone declines the call automatically.

Important: Some of these steps only work on Android 6.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

Block a number

  1. Open your Phone app

  2. Tap More

  3. Tap a call from the number you want to block.
  4. Tap Block / report spam.

Tip: If visual voicemail is on, blocked callers cannot leave voicemails.  Learn how to turn on visual voicemail.

Block unknown numbers

  1. Open your Phone app .
  2. Tap More

  3. Tap Settings

  4. Turn on Unknown.

This will block calls from private or unidentified numbers.  You will still receive calls from phone numbers that are not stored in your contacts. 

Unblock a number

  1. Open your Phone app .
  2. Tap More

  3. Tap Settings

  4. Next to the number you want to unblock, tap Clear

     Unblock.

Tip: Any calls you got from the number while it was blocked won't show in your call history.

If you've installed a version of iOS 10 on your iPhone, you can block numbers without having to save them as a contact first. When you block a number, you stop receiving calls, FaceTime notifications, or texts from that number.

You can block numbers from Phone app, Messages app, or the FaceTime app.

Block A Number In The Phone App

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap the Recents icon

     at the bottom of the screen. You'll know you're in the Recents tab when the icon turns blue.
  3. Tap the blue i

     next to the number you wish to block.
  4. Scroll down and tap Block this Caller.
  5. Tap Block Contact to block the number on your iPhone.

Block A Number In The Messages App

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Open the conversation from the number you wish to block.
  3. In the upper right hand corner of your iPhone's screen, tap the blue i

  4. At the top of the screen, tap on the number (make sure you don't press the phone icon because that will call the number!)
  5. At the bottom of the screen, tap Block this Caller.
  6. Tap Block Contact to block the number on your iPhone.

  1. Open the FaceTime app.
  2. Tap the blue i

  3. Scroll down and tap Block this Caller.
  4. Tap Block Contact to block the number on your iPhone.

Can you block all calls from non contacts?

SILENCE ALL UNKNOWN CALLS For Android, tap the phone icon usually found at the bottom of your home screen. Then at the top right corner of the screen, tap the three dots, Settings, then Blocked Numbers. Then enable “Block Calls From Unidentified Callers” by tapping the toggle switch on the right.

Can you block a number that hasn't contacted?

Go into your phone settings. Select “Call Settings” or the equivalent. Select “Call Rejection” or the equivalent. Select “Auto Reject List” or the equivalent.
