Will my Card work with Apple Pay?

Personal and Corporate Cards issued by American Express International Inc. in Singapore, will be eligible to use Apple Pay.

Apple Pay is not available to holders of American Express Corporate Meeting Card, American Express Corporate Purchasing Card, American Express Business Travel Account, American Express International Currency Card, credit cards bearing the American Express name, brand or logo issued by DBS Bank Limited, United Overseas Bank Limited and Citibank Singapore Limited.

Is my device ready for Apple Pay?

In stores, you can use Apple Pay on your iPhone or Apple Watch. Within Apps, you can use Apple Pay on your iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Within websites in Safari, you can use Apple Pay on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. To use Apple Pay on your Mac, Allow Payments on Mac needs to be enabled on your iPhone.

Can I load more than one Card?

Yes, Apple Pay allows a maximum of eight Cards to be loaded to the Wallet. To ensure you are receiving the many benefits of American Express, make sure your American Express Card is set as your default Card.

How do I set American Express as my default Card?

To make your American Express Card the default Card, simply open the Wallet app then tap and hold the Card. Drag it to the front of the stack, and release. You will receive a notification confirming your new default Card setting. Easy!

How do I remove my Card from Apple Pay?

You can remove your Card from Apple Pay by selecting: Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Select Card > Remove Card

How do I pay in stores using my iPhone?

To pay in stores, there is no need to wake your iPhone or open an app. Just hold your phone near the contactless reader and use either Touch ID or your device Passcode. For the iPhone X, double-click the side button and authenticate with Face ID before holding your phone near the contactless reader.

You will see “Done” on the display, along with a subtle vibration and beep, letting you know your payment information was sent.

How do I pay in stores with an Apple Watch?

On Apple Watch, double-click the side button and hold the display of your Apple Watch up to the contactless reader. A gentle tap and beep confirm that your payment information was sent.

How do I pay in apps?

To pay within apps on iPhone and iPad, select Apple Pay as the payment method during checkout and use either Touch ID, Face ID or your device Passcode.

How much can I spend in an Apple Pay transaction?

With Apple Pay, you can spend up to S$100 at stores accepting American Express contactless.

How do I get a refund for something I purchased with Apple Pay?

If you need to return a purchase made with Apple Pay, you will have to bring along your physical Card and request the merchant to issue the refund back on your Card.

For verification purposes, you may be asked to provide the last four digits of your Device Account Number (instead of the last few digits of your Card number). To find them, select ‘Settings’ then ‘Wallet & Apple Pay’. Alternatively, find it in the settings menu in the Wallet app by tapping on the ‘i’ icon.


Do you share my Card Account number or other information with Apple?

We are not going to share your physical Card number with Apple. However, to deliver the best Apple Pay experience, we will display some Account information on your device for each American Express Card you have selected to use, such as your recent purchases, so that it is personalised to you.

You can turn off the display of transaction data at any time manually within Apple Pay by adjusting the ‘Transaction History’ for each Card.

As soon as you register your Card to your device, Apple may access and process some of your personal information, including information about your transactions in order to provide the Apple Pay service. Apple’s use of your personal information is solely governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

How secure is an Apple Pay transaction?

Your Card in Apple Pay is protected by 'Touch ID', 'Face ID' or your personal 'Passcode' that you use to access your device to help make it as secure as possible.

You must either use ‘Touch ID’, 'Face ID' or your personal ‘Passcode’ for your device to complete a transaction using Apple Pay.

All of your payment information is encrypted in a dedicated chip in your device, known as a Secure Element.

Can anyone other than myself pay for goods and services using my device?

Any person with your device ‘Passcode’ or a fingerprint registered to your device will be able to authorise transactions using your Card with Apple Pay.

You must keep your device safe and secure, and your device ‘Passcode’ secret. Do not let anyone else, including family members, have their fingerprint registered to your device while your Card is registered with it.

My device has been lost or stolen and I want to delete or suspend my Card. What should I do?

If your iPhone or iPad is lost or stolen, you can go to iCloud.com or use the 'Find My iPhone' app to suspend or permanently remove the ability to pay from that device with Apple Pay. Your Card(s) will be suspended or removed from Apple Pay even if your device is offline and not connected to a cellular or Wi-Fi network.

If your Apple Watch is lost or stolen, you can remove the ability to pay from that device with Apple Pay on iCloud.com. Just sign in, click Settings, choose your device, and click Remove All.

Alternatively, if you are unable to perform the steps above in any way, call us immediately at the number found on the back of your Card.

What if I lose my Card?

It’s quick and easy to request a free replacement – just contact us right away on 6396 6000.

Once you request a replacement Card, your Device Account Number is automatically connected to your replacement Card number, so you can continue to make transactions using Apple Pay before your replacement Card arrives.

If I receive a replacement Card, do I need to update my Card information with Apple Pay on my existing device?

No, your Device Account Number is connected to your replacement Card number automatically.

You can use your Card with Apple Pay to make transactions before receiving your replacement Card.

What if I don’t recognise a charge?

A charge might appear on your statement that you disagree with or want to query. Just contact us and we will get on the case to help resolve the charge in question.
