How to use a stylus pen on ipad

5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy with quality and price
Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2019

Just got an iPad 2 weeks ago and the stylus I had didn’t work well so ordered this one after reading the reviews (especially grateful for the one with video showing where the extra tip is). It is extremely sensitive, comfortable to hold (always picked up old one where the clip was in the way). One review complained there was no way to keep it with tablet, but I have a Logitech case with keyboard and this stylus slides right into the loop for opening the case! Just what I hoped for.

I've had this stylus for a bit and I'm pretty happy with it. I don't use it all the time but it consistently works when I do. It is easy to care for because the body is solid, but hasn't scratched or anything. The case is useful at keeping it clean and easier to find. I also really like the magnetic cap. It looks nice and fits well on both ends making this stylus look very fancy even at its relatively low price. It doesn't need to be charged or powered on which is nice. I have used active styluses and they are nice for art and longer sessions, but unless you spend major money I've found them to be a bit finicky with needing to be turned on and everything.
This does not have that problem.

My only real complaint is that the disc tip feels more fragile than it is and it has trouble getting to the edges of my phone because of the width combined with the raised edge of the case. It is nice that I can seamlessly transition from a phone to a tablet and it also works on the touch pad of my computer. It also has a replacement tip built in and ready to go and more are available. If you use a stylus regularly or feel like you want to this is a good choice at a good price.

I've rated the stylus a 3 because I cannot be certain whether it is the stylus or my iPhone that is to blame. I seem to need to forcefully tap the screen for my letter/number/symbol to register on the screen. Until I can find out why this is happening I cannot honestly rate the stylus. I can say that I like the magnetic protective cap as well as the extra tip provided by the seller. I suspect that the cause of my problem is due to something not functioning properly in the iPhone. If that is true then I would rate the stylus with 5 stars, in other words the best evaluation. Saul I. Frommer

Best pen for an iPad considering the price

I've not used a pen, stylus before and would like better instructions.

I didn't realize that the plastic disc in the picture is actually part of the tip and does not come off. It makes writing awkward and hard to tell where your actually putting the tip down on the screen. If I had paid more for this, I think I would have returned it, but it's not worth the gas money to do so. Other than that, it does what it supposed to. has a little weight to it so it feels like you have a quality pen in your hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great substitute for Apple Pen

This is actually a great substitute for the Apple Pen
Works really well for basic mark ups on pictures. I use it on my iPad. Don’t regret the purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars Simpler to use than other precision points. Magnetic cap is genious.

I have Apple Pencil V1 and V2, plus an assortment of mesh tip and precision tip styluses like this one.

Sure the Apple Pencils are much nicer but unless you are doing fine detailed sketches Apple Pencils are overkill.

My other basic styluses have caps that screw on and off. Terrible idea. The tips are constantly loosening as when screw the cap on and off. Plus takes a lot longer than the simple magnetic cap on this stylus;

Extremely light.
Works great for anything but detailed writing and sketching.
Never needs to be charged.
Super light weight.
Nice quality all metal construction.
Magnetic cap is super quick and hassle free to use.
Unlike Apple Pencil you can use non-active styluses like this to do swipe up and swipe down gestures that have to start from the bezel outside of the display area.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it

I love my pen!! I had been looking for a fine tip stylus pen and the ones at Staples or other office supply stores were beyond my budget. This pen is very sleek and feels well made. It works perfectly as well.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't buy

it's weird to write on my ipad with a disc at the bottom of this pencil. Also, it wasn't smooth at all. Lastly, you have to activate the pencil mode in the ipad for this to work (just like if you want to write with your finger). so if you're trying to mark up a multi-page PDF, it's hard to flip pages (you cannot just swipe down to change pages; you have to get out of pencil mode, then swipe down, and then get back into pencil mode for edits). i returned this stylus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best one yet!!

It’s a great stylist to use. I ordered one and let my 84 year old mom try it and she loved the way it felt and she said it was easier to use than the old one I gave her. I then ordered three more, one for me one for my sister and one for my father in law.

How do I connect my stylus pen to my iPad?

Go to Settings > Bluetooth and make sure that Bluetooth is turned on. . Then tap Forget this Device. Connect your Apple Pencil into your iPad and tap the Pair button when it appears after a few seconds.

Can you use a stylus pen on any iPad?

The stylus works with any 11-inch iPad Pro, any 12.9-inch iPad Pro, sixth-generation and later iPad, third-generation iPad Air, and iPad mini 5. There's no need to worry about pairing the stylus.

Why won't my stylus pen work on my iPad?

If you find your Apple Pencil not working, it could be time to check your Bluetooth settings to make sure the Pencil's connected — and if not, reconnect it. Alternatively, you can unpair your Apple Pencil and then re-pair it to your iPad; sometimes, that helps shake off a weird connection and fixes issues.
