England vs Pakistan 1st ODI Highlights: England recorded an emphatic nine-wicket win over Pakistan to go 1-0 up in a three-match series. Saqib Mahmood picked up four wickets in the first ODI in Cardiff to help England skittle out Pakistan for just 141 runs. England lost only one wicket as they chased down the target in only 21.5 overs.
England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first against Pakistan in the first ODI in Cardiff on Thursday. England handed debuts to five players after their first-XI players were sent into an isolation following a virus outbreak a couple of days before the series.
Debuts were given to opener Phil Salt, first drop batsman Zak Crawley, wicketkeeper John Simpson and allrounder Lewis Gregory in the middle order, and fast bowler Brydon Carse. Pakistan, on the other hand, gave debut to left-hander Saud Shakeel in the middle order after Haris Sohail returned home after tearing a hamstring in training.

Led by Mohammad Hafeez’s brilliant century Pakistan won the 1st ODI at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi against England. Chasing 217, Pakistan reached the target in 44th over with six wickets in hand as Hafeez and Babar Azam notched an unbeaten partnership of 106 runs for the fifth wicket. Pakistan response began on a jittery note with Reece Topley striking twice in his first two overs. Topley first sent Captain Azhar Ali back in the hutch and then removed another opener Bilal Asif. These two early jolts left Pakistan struggling at 15 for two. Hafeez then along with Younis Khan tried to stable the Pakistan innings. However, Younis, playing his last ODI, fell for just nine runs and that sent panic in the Pakistan dressing room. With three wickets down Hafeez then found an able partner in Shoaib Malik. The duo shared 70 runs for the fourth wicket partnership. Eventually it was Hafeez and Azam who guided Pakistan home. Both the batsmen were unbeaten on 102 and 62 respectively. You can watch the highlights of Pak vs Eng 1st ODI below (Pull back the timeline to watch from beginning)-
Earlier, winning the toss England Captain Eoin Morgan decided to bar first. The visitors lost three wickets in early on were tottering on 14 for three inside first four overs. Mohammad Irfan struck in with the second ball of England innings and Anwar Ali then struck in his two consecutive overs.
After that Morgan along with James Taylor shared a 133-run stand for the third wicket to bail their side out of trouble. However, Pakistan struck in quick succession once again, courtesy some superb fielding and England were left in deep trouble.
England eventually were bowled for 216 runs. Mohammad Irfan picked three wickets while Anwar Ali and Shoaib Malik scalped two wickets each. Leg-spinner Yasir Shah picked just one wicket. The two teams will now meet in second ODI at the same venue on coming Friday.
