Synopsis

You might even say it glows!

Sam the snowman tells us the story of a young red-nosed reindeer who, after being ousted from the reindeer games because of his glowing nose, teams up with Hermey, an elf who wants to be a dentist, and Yukon Cornelius, the prospector. They run into the Abominable Snowman and find a whole island of misfit toys. Rudoph vows to see if he can get Santa to help the toys, and he goes back to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. Rudolph's dad is legit out here flinging dirt on his kids nose so he won't be embarrassed that his son is different. Fit in, he says. Be like the others, he says. Get used to it, he says.

Rudolph's dad is a fucking asshole.

Okay so someone has probably already pointed this out but one of the misfit toys is a bird that doesn't fly but swims instead. And then, at the end credits, you see an elf tossing out the toys (supposedly to houses) and giving them each umbrellas. BUT, when he sees the bird, he just tosses it out of the sleigh, thinking it can fly. THAT ELF JUST TOSSED THE SWIMMING BIRD TO ITS DEATH!

There's a bit where the elf that wants to be a dentist is practicing dentistry on a doll by hammering on its teeth. Later he rips a bunch of teeth out of an unwilling donor. Do not let this elf be a dentist.

If Burl Ives were to narrate my life and give the 30 + years of bullying and alienation some kind of meaning, I might feel better. But until then, I'm going to continue being bitter about it. So don't mind me. I'll just be over here. Doing that.

An absolute classic, beautifully told and wonderfully constructed. How much more is there to say?

My favorite moment is Santa. I wonder if he's on his own naughty list?

This is a December must watch. It’s always on and I’d so enjoyable. It’s dated and a lot of the characters are way too mean spirited but I still think it’s great. It’s a Christmas tradition and I watch it almost every year. It’s iconic and the music slaps.
