I bought a Vitamix Drink Machine 2 Step base for a song at an auction. It was pretty nasty, but still ran well. I cleaned it up and it really looks and sounds great. It didn't come with a pitcher, lid or blade.

I contacted Vitamix which told me that I could get the following replacement pitcher\blade\lid combos,

756 – 64 oz container with ice blade and lid

15506 – 48 oz stackable container with ice blade and lid

15640 – 32 oz container with ice blade and lid

Is there a huge difference between the ice blade and the other blades?

If so, does anyone know if there are either wet or dry blade\pitcher configurations that will fit the base I have? I asked Vitamix, but they said that they could not guarantee the fit and operation of a pitcher other than pitchers on the list they gave me.

UPDATE: I bought model #15856 - Vitamix Eastman Tritan Copolyester 64-Ounce Container with Wet Blade and Lid.

The fit on the base is not tight, but I am not sure if it supposed to be. The blending seems to work great so far, so I guess the motor and blade couples together fine. So far so good, steady as she goes.

Thanks for the help!

Vitamix wet blade vs ice blade

I'm considering getting a second container b/c I'd like to keep sweet and savory things separate (don't want onion flavored smoothies). Just wondering if getting a container with an ice blade is worth is since my "sweet" things are mostly smoothies anyways. If I decided to make Kale smoothies would it be able to chop it? I hear the ice blade is dull to crush more than chop so I don't know if it'll work. Anybody have an ice blade? It's hard to find reviews of it on the web even on those Vitamix/blender blogs. There isn't even that much discussion on Reddit. Thank you.

Do Vitamix blades wear out?

Blade assemblies are a wear item and require periodic replacement based on use. Vitamix® recommends inspecting blade assemblies weekly according to the Blender Care & Maintenance Guide instructions below.

Why are Vitamix blades dull?

Dull blades can make it difficult to blend ingredients and they can also cause unnecessary wear on the motor. There are many reasons that blades will lose their edge over time, but most commonly they become dulled because of hard ingredients like ice cubes.

What is Vitamix blade made of?

Vitamix uses hardened, laser-cut, stainless-steel blades, ensuring that every edge is powerful and unlikely to dull or rust over time. Our precise cut aligns with the metal grain, creating greater durability and strength upon impact.
