one thing I can say, and is supported by their dyno chart..there is never any reason to go past 4500 rpms..it's given its best at that point

There's around 15 hp parasitic loss from the primary drive, gear box, and final belt drive.
Rear wheel numbers are what a dyno will measure.

This explains allot to me I never knew that. So now when someone asks, I can
sound like I know what I'm talking about. Lol, Thanks

Hmmm, I dont know how H/D does it but Auto Manufacturers use net. Thats with accessories running and through the trans. This became std. practice about 1973.

I've gotten contradicting numbers from 80 to 100 hp., Why doesn't Harley
state the horse power on their motors, and can someone please tell me what
the horse power is on the stock 114 M8. When people ask me I just tell them
to pick a number from 80 to 100 and tell them I don't know for sure, and they
always give this strange look and say you bought it and you don't know.

My guess would be different dyno's and run at different conditions/ temperatures. I do not look for a glory run that many do. When were running the dyno we want to be able to repeat the numbers in the same conditions day in and day out.. Sure we could show bigger numbers by cooling the engine down to room temperature or many of the other games that get played on the dyno but it's just not worth it to us. We do them at minimum engine and oil temp of 185 deg F and the results are what they are. Each of the test bikes start off stock and when we finish they are returned to stock and tested again. If we cannot match the results then we know something has changed along the way, so we will determine what changed then do it all over again! This way we know what we've done is solid testing and everyone else should be able to do this well or better.
