1 What is a MERV Rating? 2 MERV 8 3 MERV 11 4 MERV 13 5 Odor Eliminator Replacement Air Filter 16x25x5 (Actual Size: 15.75 x 24.75 x 4.38 Inches)
Choosing the Correct Filter SizeNominal Size vs. Actual SizeThe nominal size is a shorthand number rounded to the nearest whole or half inch, normally in a larger font (ex: 16 x 16 x 1). Whereas the actual size is an exact measurement, normally in a smaller font, that depicts the filter's precise dimensions (ex: 15.75 x 15.75 x .75). All filters have both. Measuring Your Air FiltersIf your current air filter does not have a dimension listed on the frame, use a tape measure to record the length x width x depth to find the actual size. Then round these measurements up to the nearest inch to find a corresponding nominal size, which will be easier to locate when searching online. Why should I change my air filter? To maintain a healthy lifestyle, as breathing dirty air can put you at risk to develop asthma, allergies, and other respiratory ailments. Plus, old filters can cause system defects which may lead to unwanted expenses via energy costs and repairs. Will these air filters fit my system? Most of our filters are universally compatible, and will work with virtually any furnace, air conditioner, heat pump, or HVAC system. But if you see a specific brand name like Honeywell within a product title, then it is designed for an exact model. How do I change my air filter? Once you find the right size, turn off your power supply and remove the cover from your intake vent. You can then take out the old filter and dispose of it safely. Finally, just insert your new filter, replace the cover, and turn the power back on. How often should I change my air filter? We generally recommend replacing your filter every 90 days to keep your system running efficiently and air clean. But, this is subject to change based on filter size and variable factors for pet owners, allergy-sufferers, homes with children, etc. How many air filters do I need? This varies for every customer depending on specific needs like those referenced in the prior answer. However, our selection includes package quantities that range from 1 to 12 filters, so no matter what your situation may be, we've got you covered. About Us
Is MERV 11 too high?In most cases, a MERV 11 air filter isn't too high for residential use. Generally speaking, anything under a MERV 13 air filter should provide very efficient air purification in a home without impacting airflow.
Is MERV 11 a good air filter?MERV 11 rated air filters have a filtration efficiency of a little over 90%, making them highly efficient. MERV 11 furnace filters effectively trap pollen, dust, lint, dust mites, and mold, along with smoke, pet dander, smog, auto emissions, bacteria, and other such fine particles.
Which is better MERV 10 or MERV 11?A MERV 9 will trap less than 50% of particles sized 1.0-3.0 microns, MERV 10 will stop up to 64%, MERV 11 will get up to 79%, and MERV 12 is capable of catching up to 89%.
Is MERV 11 a good rating?MERV 11 filters are more efficient than MERV 8 filters as they can capture smaller particles. They offer additional protection from pet dander, dust mites, auto-emissions, and lung-damaging dust. This is a good option for households with pets or those looking for even better air quality than the MERV 8 can provide.
