There are two camshaft position sensors on the 5.4l engine, one on the front right cylinder head and one on the front of the left cylinder head. The camshaft position sensor is in charge of making sure the timing with the cams is correct, and that they are aligned. If there is something wrong with the cams then the car will not get as much power while You are driving. In the short term, this is a minor issue, but it can lead to engine damage and failure. What would have been a moderate repair will now become a multi-thousand dollar repair. Take it into the shop if You get a trouble code, which You will for a bad sensor, and have them fix it. It will cost a couple of hundred.

What happens when camshaft sensor is faulty?

A failing camshaft position sensor begins losing its ability to quickly transfer data. Mismatched fuel delivery and ignition timing, even if off by a few milliseconds, will cause your vehicle to sputter, accelerate poorly, lack power, stall or even shut off.

What are the symptoms of a camshaft sensor?

If your vehicle idles roughly, stalls frequently, has a drop in engine power, stumbles frequently, has reduced gas mileage, or accelerates slowly, these are all signs your camshaft position sensor could be failing.
