I know this is probably out there but all the guides and videos I have found are of different years. I have a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe.

I need to know where the Crankshaft Sensor is located at.

Thank you!

If it's the 2.7 you are very very lucky. It is located right above the starter. Just have to take the shield off the starter. Once you get the shield off, spot from the oil filter back above the starter to spot the crank sensor. Use a 10mm 1/4 inch drive to take out the single bolt holding it in. You need a thin walled socket because the bolt is very close to the sensor. Some have reported that the sensor gets stuck in it's hole. Be glad it's not the 3.5 because getting to that is like putting on a new timing belt.

Here's a pic of a new engine, bank 2 (front) and I'm pretty sure the crank sensor goes in the hole you can see in the lower right corner of the engine block. You can see the reluctor ring through the hole.

Bruce gives you an excellent picture.

It's easiest to access it from the bottom of the engine and remove the heat shield from the starter, if i remember correctly.

It's a 10mm bolt on a tab, which is your other hole to the left in the pic that Bruce posted. Be gentle, if the sensor is very old it might break during removal an leave pieces inside your engine.

Search this forum and you will find lots of info on the Crank sensor, which is often confused with the cam sensor. The cam sensor is located on the top of the engine off the intake plenum.

Easiest just to take the starter off. It opens up a lot of space and you will be done quicker.

The crankshaft sensor is located at the front of the engine down at the timing belt pulley. You will need to remove the timing belt cover. here is a diagram to help you see what I am talking about. The six.

Here is a guide that can give you more information on the job:

Here is what it will be like (below) for four and six cylinder engines.

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers

I looked for about an hour last night in this area and could not find it. Is it under something else or hidden? I have the new sensor and know what it looks like, but cannot see it on the car. I went to the Hyundai dealership and asked a mechanic. The crankshaft sensor is above the starter on the side of the block. A bit hard to get to, but I changed it and car is running again.

Four cylinder front wheel drive manual.

Where is the crankshaft position sensor and how long does it take to replace on a 2.4L?

My 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe will not start. I already installed a new fuel pump and still same. I was thinking may be the crankshaft sensor but I do not know where it is. How can I find it?

You do not change parts and hope that it works. It is going to be costly and a waste of time and money unless you are extremely lucky.

You need to start with diagnostics to find out what is missing causing the non starting.

My SUV suddenly would not shift into second gear going down the highway. I babied it home and noticed also that placing it in reverse the engine immediately quit. Idle the car and it is fine. Placing it in drive it jumps. So I took out my computer check tool and it said the crankshaft sensor was bad.

So I guess I need to know where this is located on the engine? Thanks, Mark

I doubt it is your crank sensor, but here is location in picture. If it still does it have a transmission professional check it. It may be a governor or in need of transmission rebuild.

Reason I said the sensor is my tester gave me the p003 and said crankshaft position sensor. Somebody told me that I would have to remove the timing belt cover and crankshaft pulley. You are showing the sensor at the top of the engine?
