Could someone please enlighten me as to the location of the crank position sensor in this vehicle?? The car loses power and the tach acts funny until restarting. I have the sensor but I can’t find where it is. Everything I’ve seen is for the 2.4 or other model. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for reading!!!!

Good luck,

Crispy just described the problem I'm having with mine. I was looking at the pic and I can't quite make out how to access that spot behind the engine. Do I get it up on ramps and go from underneath. Crispy, did this replacement solve your problem?

The sensor is located on the top rear of the engine, I believe it was just one bolt to get it out. Yes it did solve my issue.

Thanks! I should be able to tackle this once the sensor arrives.

Ok, next question... How the bleep do you get to it? I'm trying to remove as little as possible, but there's a lot of crap in my way.

I've found the electrical connection, which I think is what's in the picture, posted earlier. I can't seem to follow that to wherever it goes.

Here a video from a 2013 Sonata with the 2.0T. Location should be about the same on the Santa Fe.

Crank position sensor is same location on all the theta 2 engine, 2.0 and 2.4
Comes down to getting at the thing, as there is plate bolted over top of sensor to shield from heat, the snap that snapped to water housing to hold harness in place, the subframe if done from underneath, and the transfer case-mounting at transmission... not fun

Can I replace a camshaft position sensor myself?

It may be easiest to remove and replace the camshaft sensor from under your vehicle, but it can also be done from the top by removing the air filter housing.
