HOTCARS VIDEO OF THE DAY

Recently, Hennessey Performance unveiled their 1,200 hp Mustang GT500. This is the Venom 1200, possibly one of the most insane creations that the Hennessey team has come up with yet, taking the already wild and raw Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and adding bundles of power to the car and various other new components. To find out just how much power makes it to the ground, the Hennessey team have taken the Mustang and put it on their dyno and given it a full power blast. A video of the run is on the Hennessey YouTube channel, showing the car at full power and the sound its V8 engine makes.

What Makes The Venom 1200 Mustang So Special?

What helps to make this Shelby based creation, so special is simply the incredible power it produces. From the Ford Performance factory, the GT500 has a supercharged 5.2-liter V7 engine that makes 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque. Those are already some pretty impressive figures. The Hennessey team though believed that a lot of the potential of the car was in fact left untapped by Ford. What Hennessey did was add a higher capacity 3.8-liter supercharger to the Mustang, a high-flow induction system, new fuel rails and much more.

With all of those additions and even more added to the car, Hennessey says that the Venom 1200 makes an astonishing 1,204 hp and 902 lb-ft of torque. This is an incredible 58% increase over what the car makes as standard. That certainly taps into the hidden potential of this rather fearsome car, making it one of the most powerful creations that the Hennessey team has ever produced. Only 66 of these are being built globally, and owners have the choice of adding the historic 1966 24 Hours of Daytona Ford Mark II GR40 red, white and black livery to their car too.

Getting The Venom 1200 Onto The Dyno

The video on the team's YouTube channel shows the car finally get onto the dyno to see just how much of that power actually transfers to the tarmac. We get some nice arty shots of the car in the video before its power is all unleashed, and the noise the supercharged V8 engine makes is insane and so raw. There is so much power and noise coming from the car that it makes the camera actually shake. When the dyno run is over, we see it makes 1,000.28 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque.

You will always lose some of that raw power when it transfers to the wheels, and that 1,000 hp figure is still so impressive. Over 400 additional horsepower is now extracted from the car which as Mr Hennessey himself has said, takes the car to supercar levels. The Venom 1200 also featured all the necessary belts, hoses, clamps and hardware to make it the powerful beast that it is. A new software calibration for the car’s dual-clutch gearbox is another standout feature, as is the fact the car can run on either E85 or race fuel.

Showcasing The Best Of What Hennessey Has To Offer

The Venom 1200 certainly showcases the very best of what the Hennessey team has to offer. To make the new Mustang even more special, there is unique exterior badging on each of the 66 examples as well as a special serial-numbered plaque to identify which example of the car that you have. The team says that on 93 octane pump gas the car can achieve 900 hp while it is on E85 that the full 1,200 hp is achievable. You certainly get your moneys worth with all these Hennessey upgrades.
