Introduction to the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Light Fusion Red” 2021

Jordan 1 retro high light fusion red

First released in 1994, the Air Jordan 1 was a monumental basketball sneaker that almost never saw the light of day. Yet, it was the first in what would become an iconic and history-making line of sneakers. The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Light Fusion Red” is the latest re-release of this famed line, retroed in 2021, simultaneously demonstrating the brand’s timelessness and ability to reinvent itself with the times.

History of the Air Jordan 1

Legend has it that, in 1994, famed basketball star Michael Jordan was taking meetings ahead of signing an endorsement deal. The Chicago Bulls’ rookie was known to wear Converse and loved adidas, so he met with both of those brands, though he did not sign a deal with either company. That being said, he disliked Nike so much that he would not meet with them at all.

It was Jordan’s mother Deloris who finally convinced him to sit down with Nike and listen to their pitch. At first, he visited the Oregon Nike campus simply to appease his mother, but he ended up leaving with a unique and exciting contract that would have him earn more than any other athlete with a sneaker endorsement. Michael Jordan would become the face of a dedicated basketball sneaker line: the Air Jordan.

Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Light Fusion Red” Design and Features

The original Air Jordan 1 was designed by Peter Moore, and the Retro High OG “Light Fusion Red” embodies many of the same design elements and features, such as high-top construction, a perforated toe box, and the now-iconic Wings logo. Together, these features provide the retroed version with a timeless aesthetic reminiscent of earlier versions.

The shoe additionally contains a standard rubber cupsole, within which a foam wedge enhanced with Nike Air cushioning is housed, for additional comfort, support, and stability, enabling longer wear.
