Love all of her recipes. I got so sick of putting in the effort to make elaborate meals and having them fall short of my family’s expectations. I pretty much only cook with Jenn’s recipes now as my family loves them and she really does make them foolproof. The other night my daughter said “Raise your hand if you think mom makes the best food on the planet” and raised her precious little hand along with my husband.Thank you Jenn for these books. They are game changers!!!!!!

Fabulous cookbook with easy “doable” delicious recipes. Most of the recipes have ingredients that can be found at my local grocery store and likewise don’t cost a boatload of money. While I enjoy following/cooking recipes, such as Ina Garten, etc, it’s not unusual for the ingredients to be somewhat expensive and difficult to find. They will also represent that a recipe will take (ex) 30 mins. to put together, when it actually takes twice or 3 times that, as I have to shop, cut, chop and peel all of my ingredients, MYSELF. I typically don’t have a prep guy/gal doing all the before/set up work. )-;
This cookbook is sooo much more practical and realistic for the everyday cook. So, GREAT BUY!!

I originally checked this book out from our public library and liked every recipe I tried, so decided to buy my own copy. So far, they have been consistently great and ones that my entire family have loved! I appreciate the tips in the sidebar about making them ahead, freezing them, etc.

I am an avid follower of Jenn’s blog and have cooked 2+ recipes of hers every week for several years now. I purchased several copies of her first book for myself and others, and recipe tested/pre-ordered this book as well. There are many delicious recipes in this book, but there were more from the blog than I was expecting. I don’t mind having some of her blog faves in there as I do prefer to cook from a printed page over my iPad or phone, but it is worth noting.

However, my least favorite part of the book is how it’s organized. I kind of like the week vs weekend concept, but the sub-categories aren’t very intuitive to me. For example, the fish tacos are not located in the “From the Sea” chapter, but rather under “No Fork Needed.” There are also two quiches in the book, each in different sections. Both are delicious, but I can never remember which quiche is in which breakfast chapter. The recipe names are listed only on each of the chapter pages, so you have to turn to every chapter to browse recipes. A simple table of contents in the front of the book to include the recipe names would have helped immensely with browsing and locating recipes.

If I were to recommend one book over the other, I would still go with Jenn’s first book. I’ll continue to purchase her books because she has blessed me and my family with her delicious and home-cook friendly recipes for many years now, and I’ll always support her for that reason alone! Just wanted to share my two cents for the next release.

I start out a huge fan of Jennifer Segal's blog, Once Upon a Chef. I own a copy of her first cookbook, which has been my favorite and most used cookbook thus far.

As far as this latest cookbook? It is awesome! I must admit, I was slightly disappointed when I first thumbed through the book at how many recipes I already make from her blog that are included in this book. I think the disappointment was just because it was a surprise to me. If I had known in advance there would be a mix of old and new recipes, I still would have purchased the book! Any disappointment I felt very quickly faded and turned into inspiration (and a very large grocery list!)

This cookbook is a beautiful work of art. Classy, understated elegance, gorgeous photos and well organized. Jenn has a way of breaking down cooking steps and making difficult tasks seem more simple. Although a lot of the "weeknight" recipes aren't what you might necessarily consider a quick, "weeknight" meal, she includes tips for making part or all of some recipes in advance if you want (which is totally how I like to operate). As long as you are organized and have everything you need to put these recipes together when you get home, they really can come together quickly! This book is inspiring -- even weeknight meals can be "special"!

I have tried many of the recipes from this book, her prior cookbook, and from her blog and I have never been disappointed or not had a recipe turn out. Every single one of her recipes is something special -- even the "Simple Sides"! According to my husband, the meals I am making are better than anything you will get from a restaurant. (This compliment is the direct effect of using Jennifer Segals's recipes!) Her recipes are the only ones I would ever consider making for company without a trial run first. They are all so well tested, tweaked and perfected. They always turn out delicious!

Bottom line -- I recommend this book.

Jen’s first cook book is one of my all time favourite cook books and I have a lot. I have followed her blog for years and all my family and friends love her recipes, so I pre-ordered this book as soon as I could. It had a lot to live up to. I have had it for a week now and have a big list of recipes I can’t wait to try. I have already made the lasagne soup, Blackened Fish Tacos and Creamy Potato soup all of which have been easy and really tasty. There are a few family favourites in the book that I have been making for years from her blog such as breakfast burritos, chicken Marsala and Greek style shrimp, it’s nice to have them in hard copy as well. If you are looking for a cookbook that you will use over and over again, with recipes that won’t fail then I definitely recommend Weeknight/weekend. I will be buying extra copies for Christmas presents

3.0 out of 5 stars This is for the North American market, not the British

This book has a cover price in US/Canadian dollars. Inside the recipes use 'Cups' as a measure, as well as referring to scallions*, cilantro** and something called 'Mexican cheese'***. We bought this for our nephew, but should he really have to translate it into British English first? The recipes in preview were nice, but those in the rest of the actual book were just 'too american'
* green onions ** coriander *** no idea!

I received this cookbook on release day and I was really blown away at the quality of the book.

There are gorgeous illustrations for each meal, detailed instructions. The book is a hardcover and very sturdy. But if you are a messy cook, beware that any splatter or messes that ruin the pages are going to make you very upset. That's how pretty this is.

There are a lot of meals in here that are realistic and look / sound tasty.

I didn't find all of her sourcing savvy information to be helpful as I'm located in Canada. I was also very disappointed because the focaccia recipe looks absolutely divine but it requires a stand mixer. I don't have one of those. I kept reading the recipe in hopes that she would provide an alternative way to make it but she didn't. So that was quite disheartening. I hope a lot of her recipes are not like that.

It would have been nice as well if she had more recommendations of substitutions but I think a knowledgeable cook who knows their way around the kitchen should be able to figure it out.

If you are looking for tasty, quick cuisine that doesn't require ingredients that are hard to source, I think this cookbook will be very useful for you. It will also appeal to anyone who enjoys images of every meal. She has the meals presented so nicely as well.
