I own two Germguardians and one Honeywell but wanted a dest top air purifier. I read the reviews and this sounded great though it was mentioned that it is large.
What is large? Well I have a Canon printer on my desk (MX922) This purifier is about the same size without the height.

OK the SMOKE TEST!!!! Well in my opinion it failed. There are three speed settings. low,medium and high. Lets forget about the low stting and start with Medium. Holding a Cigar or cigarette 12 inches in front of the intake on medium. Results equal NO SMOKE IS EVEN DRAWN TO IT. The smoke just goes straight up in the air, as if the purifier was not even on.

Still doing the Smoke Test. Putting the unit on High and placing a lit Cigar and Cigarette 12 inches in front of the unit. The results are about 50% of the smoke is drawn into the unit. The other half gets drawn to the unit with the other 50% but goes over the top and then gets dispersed into the room by the exhausted/clean air coming out of the unit. Blowing it all over the room.

OK Blowing a good Puff of smoke directly into the unit on high and with the UV light on. The smoke come right out the back. It is dispersed and not as concentrated, therefore you may not see it as clearly as when you blew the smoke into it but it does come out the exhaust.

OPINION ON SMOKE TEST! I say it FAILED HUGE!!!!

LETS TALK ABOUT NOISE!!! ON LOW YOU REALLY DO NOT HEAR IT. MEDIUM IS DO-ABLE. HIGH IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!

THE THING IS WITH ALL THAT NOISE< YOU WOULD THINK IT WAS DOING SOMETHING, BUT IT IS NOT.

LOOK IF YOU STICK THIS IN A ROOM AND TURN IT ON IT WILL COLLECT BUT SO DOES MY TV, NIGHTSTAND< TABLE ETC.. BUT COMPARED TO THE HONEYWELL OR THE GERMGUARDIAN, It does not even compare.

Look if I put this monstrosity on my desk and felt that it would take up the second hand smoke I could deal with the noise of medium setting, but what happens is the smoke goes over my shoulder and directly to the corner of the room and gets sucked into the germgardian. The smoke does not even attempt to go near the Oreck which is on the deck inches away versus the germ guardian that is SIX FEET AWAY.

GERMGUARDIAN: SMOKE TEST. DIRECT PUFF OF SMOKE INTO THE INTAKE FAILED, JUST LIKE THE ORECK.

BOTTOM LINE IS THE GERMGARDIAN TOWER TAKES UP LESS SPACE AND WORKS 10 times better. Way less noise and a lot more CFM'S HAS FIVE TIMES THE SUFACE AREA TO COLLECT GERMS, DUST AND POLLUTANTS.
