my back window is broken! shattered actually (see pic). :/ just wondering if anyone ever replaced theirs and how much it cost (parts + install)? my first quote i got earlier tonight was $380. i'll make few more calls tomorrow. also if there's anything i need to be concerned about pre and post-install. thanks in advance! my
deductible is $500... so i don't think i'd be going through my insurance on this. :/

If its anything like windshield glass, there are different qualities of glass. if you can get glass from subaru it should be original quality, although I have heard of dealerships that will source glass from the aftermarket because the oem glass is expensive. When I replaced the windshield in my honda I went with a local shop that used PPG glass which
is considered to be good quality and oem thickness. the rear panel may not be as important with regards to safety, but putting a thinner windshield in reduces the amount of weight the roof of the vehicle can support which is important in a roll over. also the proper removal of the old sealant is important. Im pretty sure this is the most common mistake is the installer fails to remove all of the old sealant. The sealant itself is also important, I know a top brand would be sika in this regard. I
cant help with price but I know the shop I chose was maybe 20% more than the others but guaranteed the brand of glass and gave a good warranty.

thanks philosophical! i'll make sure to watch how the mobile tech do the sealants. here are other installed qoutes i got: $318 - Safelite, mobile, mixed reviews but very professional in handling everything pre-install. we'll see after the work is done. installation is TODAY that's why i chose them. hopefully i won't regret it. ~~~ it
was getting late in the afternoon and they never called so i cancelled. $325 - local, mobile, all 5 star yelp reviews. tomorrow's the earliest install ~ i guess i could have went with this one but i was dead set on having it installed today. $410!?! - enough said! local edit: found a cheaper price $265 installed and went with them. we'll see how it holds up.

About The Subaru Forester
The Subaru Forester is a station-wagon based compact crossover SUV manufactured since 1997 by Subaru. Available in Japan from 1997, the Forester shares its platform with the Impreza. It has been awarded Motor Trend’s 2009 and 2014 SUV of the Year and The Car Connection’s Best Car To Buy 2014
The Forester was introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show in November 1995 as the Streega concept, and made available for sale February 1997 in Japan, and to the US market in 1997 for MY1998.
The Forester was one of the first emerging crossover SUVs. It was built in the style of a car, but had a taller stance, higher h-point seating, and an all-wheel drive drive train. Subaru advertising employed the slogan “SUV tough, Car Easy”. It used the Impreza platform but with the larger 2.5-litre DOHC EJ25D four-cylinder boxer engine from the Subaru Outback, making 123 kW at 5,600 rpm and 220 N⋅m of torque at 4,000 rpm.
