The library will receive a limited number of the most-commonly requested federal tax forms and instructions. They will be located in the lobby. Printed copies of the New Jersey state tax forms are no longer sent to libraries. The Reference Department can assist you in locating and printing out federal or state tax forms as needed (10 cents a page).

Federal Tax Forms and Publications

There are a number of ways to access federal tax forms.

  • Go to IRS.GOV for full list of federal tax forms and publications
  • Call 1-800-829-3676 to request federal tax forms by mail

Please note: The Form 1040A and Form 1040EZ are no longer in use. They were replaced by the redesigned Form 1040 that was released in 2020. Many people will only need to file Form 1040 and no schedules. However, if your return is more complicated (for example you claim certain deductions or credits, or owe additional taxes) you will need to complete one or more of the new Form 1040 Schedules. How New Jersey Processes Income Tax Refunds

Beginning in January, we process Individual Income Tax returns daily. Processing includes:

    1. Transferring information from returns to New Jersey's automated processing system;
    2. Ensuring that we transferred the information correctly;
    3. Checking for inconsistencies as well as math and other errors.

Generally, we process returns filed using computer software faster than returns filed by paper. Electronic returns typically take a minimum of 4 weeks to process.

Processing of paper tax returns typically takes a minimum of 12 weeks.

We process most returns through our automated system. However, staff members do look at some returns manually to see whether the taxpayer filed income, deductions, and credits correctly.

In some cases, they will send a filer a letter asking for more information. In such cases, we cannot send a refund until the filer responds with the requested information.

Returns that require manual processing may take longer regardless of whether the return was filed electronically or by paper.

To mitigate the spread of COVID-19, staffing is extremely limited and may delay the timeframe to review refund requests.

Please allow additional time for processing and review of refunds.

Be sure to sign the return.
