Friedrich air conditioner how to clean filter

Did you know that when used in conjunction with the Kuhl's standard filter, installing a Friedrich Premium Carbon Filter in your Friedrich Kuhl, Friedrich Kuhl+ Electric, or Friedrich Kuhl+ Heat Pump window air conditioner can absorb odors and reduces ozone and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Installing a new carbon filter, or replacing an existing filter, is easy. Follow our step by step guide and be on your way to cleaner indoor air in just a matter of minutes.

Before You Start

For safety, before replacing your filter you'll first want to unplug the window air conditioner.

Step 1: Open the Front Cover

Open the front cover by grasping on both sides of the Kuhl's door and pulling down and towards you to access the existing filter.

Tip: Filter replacement instructions are also located inside the door.

Step 2: Remove the Filter

Remove the existing filter by gently lifting up and pulling the bottom of the filter out towards you.

Take care to pull the filter out delicately, so that it's not damaged.

Step 3: Remove the Filter Grip

Before inserting a new Friedrich Kuhl Carbon Filter you must first open the filter so that a new carbon filter can be placed inside. To open, grip from the side and slide the filter grip off the bottom of the filter.

It may take a little force to slide the grip but it should slide off with relative ease.

Step 4: Open the Filter

Open the filter and if necessary clean it with a mild soap solution.

Tip: After cleaning you'll need to let the filter air dry before installing the new carbon filter. This will ensure the filter works in tip top shape.

Step 5: Place the New Carbon Filter

Place the new carbon filter inside the filter housing by laying the carbon filter in the cassette and closing it.

When closing, make sure the that filter closes completely and latches in place.

Step 6: Replace the Filter Grip

Seal the filter by sliding the filter grip back onto the filter.

Tip: If the tab on the frame prevents the grip from sliding onto the filter, the grip is not in the proper position. Remove the grip and slide it in the other direction. Forcing the grip into place can damage the filter.

Step 7: Reinstall the Filter

Align the edges of the filter with the guide tabs. Slide the filter halfway into the unit, then tip the top of the filter towards you, and gently slide the bottom into place.

Be careful not to pinch your fingers as you slide the filter back into place.

Step 8: Close the Front Cover

Close the front cover and plug the Kuhl back in to operate as normal.

That's it! You've just installed a new premium carbon filter from Friedrich. Go ahead and set your air conditioner to that perfect setting and get back to not only having a cooler indoor space, but cleaner one too.

Icing can be caused by a number of factors. Units that have not been cleaned over a long period of time may have coils and fins clogged by dust, dirt or debris. Clogged coils and fins restrict air flow through the unit, which can cause the compressor to work even harder – so hard, that it may reduce the coil temperature below the normal range in an attempt to make up for the lost cooling power from the blocked coils. Another potential cause is running a unit with a very cold set point (i.e. turning the target temperature down very low) on low fan speed for an extended period of time. This can cause excess condensate to build up on the coils, further lowering the temperature of the coil and leading to icing. It may be helpful to ask an authorized warranty servicer to check the unit for you.

It depends. Fixed chassis window ACs can only be installed in a window. Friedrich Chill Premier models CCF05, CCF06, CCF10, and CCF12 are fixed chassis. Slide-out chassis window AC's offer both options and can be installed in a window or through the wall. All other Friedrich Chill Premier CCW and CEW models, as well as all Kühl models, are slide-out chassis.

How to clean the air filter

Your Friedrich room air conditioner is equipped with a Permafoam

reusable air filter which is not affected by washing. The filter serves to

remove dust, pollen, and other impurities from the air.

KEEP THE FILTER CLEAN - A clogged, dirty filter will reduce the

operating efficiency of your unit and contribute to frosting of the

indoor coil. Be sure to check the filter every 7 to 10 days. The filter

check procedure is easy, due to the unique design of the Friedrich

DECORATIVE FRONT frame by grasping it at the upper right and

left side corners. Pull out until the GRILLE is released from the upper

retaining snaps. This will expose the filter. Remove the filter by pulling

it toward you. Wash the filter in hot, soapy water, rinse, squeeze lightly

to remove excess water, shake dry - do not twist - and replace in the

unit on the two support hangers. Replace the INTAKE GRILLE by

positioning the bottom of the GRILLE into the bottom retaining snaps.

Tilt the front up and away from you. Press in lightly on top and the
